Our Process
More Details
The Process
The admissions process begins with an email, and continues with a parent questionnaire and more information about who we are. Once the questionnaire is returned, we set up an in-person meeting so you get to know our space and meet the caretakers, and we get to know a little more about you and your child! In making final admission decisions, we do give strong preference to families who share common values and goals with ABC Home, and who, after careful consideration and exploration, have decided our Home is the right match for their children for the right reasons.
What is ABC Home?
ABC Home is not a daycare or preschool — we are a family home and a community built on common values and goals, and have a similar vision for our children. We understand different childcare options all have different foundations, and that childcare is not about one singular child, but their families and extended families. ABC Home is unique to the Pittsburgh area in our philosophies and specific combination of academic research and Montessori principles. In our admissions process, we aim to help parents get to know our program as we get to know the children and their families. We truly want each family we bring into our Home to know we are the best fit for their child, and we want to know the families are the best fit for us. Like any relationship, we recognize not every childcare option is the best for every family.
How We Are Different
Honesty and respect are always the keys to a successful relationship. We are not going to try to convince or “sell” our philosophies and goals, but inform all parents of what we do and why we do it. We always want to be open and honest, and represent our program so that parents can fully understand us. With this information, parents can make the best decision for their families and children. We want you to find the right match for you and your parenting style so your children have the best upbringing we can give them!
Regulations
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania does place strict regulations on the number of children allowed within a Family Child Day Care Home, and ABC Home agrees that the maximum number of children cared for should be limited so that we can provide love and attention to each of the children in our care. If a waiting list were to form, we consider the date of application and the needs of the child. Siblings of current children in our care may be granted priority in the admissions process.
What We Believe In
ABC Home strongly believes in universal childcare for all children and does not discriminate against race, color, religion, disability, ancestry, national origin, or sex. We are committed to integrating all children and families’ cultures into our programs to help each child understand more about who they are and the world in which they live. We also know, however, that ABC Home is not the right fit for every child and family. ABC Home reserves the right to not accept or terminate enrollment if we are unable to meet the needs of the child or family. We do believe there is a right fit for every child and will support the families in trying to find the right fit for them!
